Story Telling at the Galilee Chapel
A Banner of Dark Shadows follows on form the story begun in On Badon Field. The novel is set in AD 525 at the end of Roman Britannia with the oncoming of the English & Welsh Kingdoms; and in modern times during the late 1980s.
In AD 525 Gwenllian is the last keeper of the Grail. Arth, the British leader is lost and she has been captured by the English. An uncertain future awaits her.
In AD 1985 Anya Gwenllian Richards is very much alone. Circumstances have not been kind to her and she lives a life on the edge of society. Will a voice from her past, her distant ancient past, bring her back from the oblivion of recreational drugs and prostitution?
Cynric of Bernacia has brought his warriors across the mountains over the high pass at Bwlch Pen Barras and on down into the lands of Cambria for the first time. They arrive at an old Roman auxiliary fort. This simple place, with recently refurbished battlements is where they come to rest. Their guide to this place, an ancient bitter Roman convincing them that it is here that Arth, the last and the lost leader of Britannia would be found hiding.
Three years on from what had seemed a random callous act of violence, an act that had ended in the death of a young man; Anya discovers a notebook pushed in-between volumes on the library shelves, hidden and forgotten. Flicking through the pages of notes suddenly the last days and hours of this murdered young man, the boy she had gone to meet, are illuminated, and an unusual story begins to emerge. A random murder, drunken nonsense at a disco or something far more mysterious?
Anya begins to suspect the latter and sets her mind to resolve the mystery behind the events leading up to this murder.
